The well has run dry for “Dallas.”
TNT is canceling the saga of the oil-rich Ewing clan, a three-season revival that featured a new generation along with longtime Southfork Ranch favorites from the soapy megahit that ran for 14 seasons on CBS starting in 1978.
The cable network released a statement praising the efforts of all involved: “TNT has decided not to renew ‘Dallas.’ We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga. We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”
The “Dallas” reboot was accompanied by fanfare surrounding the return of stars from the original series, including Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and the larger-than-life Larry Hagman, who played one of TV’s greatest characters, the gleefully villainous J.R. Ewing. Hagman died in 2012 while the show was shooting its second season, and the series held a funeral for his character later that season.
