Anne Rice’s vampiric view of Chicagoans

The author Anne Rice is speaking Saturday at the Chicago Humanities Festival. She’ll be talking about her new book, “Prince Lestat: The Vampire Chronicles.” You can read more about that here.

Of Chicago, Rice fondly remembers a book signing in a blizzard. She appreciates the Chicago fans who stood outside in line despite the foul weather. She also enjoys the shopping along Michigan Avenue.

“The readers were outside in line drinking hot chocolate and singing in the snow,” she says. And, of shopping, she adds: “I like to be right near Michigan Avenue and near the lake. I usually stay at a hotel with a view of the lake. I enjoy that very much. If I get time, I like to walk up to Michigan Avenue to the Art Institute. I love that walk. The people of Chicago are incredible. It’s like they eat the cold and turn it into fuel.”
