(OAK LAWN) A 22-year-old man was charged Tuesday with stealing a purse in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.

Officers responded to the 9700 block of South Cicero about 9:40 p.m. regarding a man who knocked down a woman and stole her purse, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

Devon Evans, who has been staying with family on the same block where the robbery occurred, was soon found by police. Evans was later identified as the purse snatcher by the victim, police said.

Evans resisted arrest and initially gave officers a fake name, according to police. Police learned that Evans was also wanted on an active burglary warrant out of Wisconsin.

He was charged with robbery, five counts of resisting arrest, one count of criminal trespass to vehicle and obstructing identification, police said.

Evans is being held on a $200,000 bond, police said.
