THE SKINNY

In a game featuring the two best teams in the North Suburban Conference Lake Division, host Zion-Benton (8-1 overall, 4-0 division) jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead before beating Stevenson 68-58.

THE TURNING POINT

A three-pointer by Melanie Despinich got Stevenson (6-4, 3-1) to within 47-41, but Zion closed the third period on a 10-0 run to put the game away. Mia Yarbrough had four points in the run and Carlie Fernandez hit a trey.

THE STAR

Yarbrough, the younger sister of Zion boys basketball star Milik Yarbrough, did not start but finished with 28 points. She was 9-of-10 from the field in the second half, dominating in the paint.

BY THE NUMBERS

Krystal Walker added 10 points for Zion. Stevenson got 17 points from Taylor Buford and 16 from freshman Ashley Richardson. Point guard Sophia Way was held to one three-pointer. Stevenson was 2-of-14 shooting in the first quarter.
