United adds E175 planes to United Express fleet

United Airlines will add 50 new E175 planes to its United Airways fleet beginning in July 2015.

Chicago-based United said Wednesday it will amend its agreement with regional carrier Shuttle America to add 50 Embraer 175 planes. Delivery will take place between July 2015 and summer 2017.

The 76-seat airplanes will replace turboprops and older aircraft, United said.

“We are pleased to offer more travelers the opportunity to experience this modern, more fuel-efficient aircraft, particularly given the high satisfaction levels our customers report when they fly our E175s,” said Sandra Pineau-Boddison, United’s senior vice president of United Express.

The airplanes will be configured with 12 first-class seats and 64 economy seats, including 16 with extra legroom. United said the planes will offer more personal space, with wider seats and aisles, compared with other regional aircraft.
