A man is facing several felony charges after he tried to run down a Chicago Police officer with an SUV on Saturday afternoon in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.
Antwon Golatte, 33, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer, two counts of manufacturing or delivering cannabis, and one count of possession of cannabis, all felonies, according to Chicago Police.
Gang enforcement officers pulled over a vehicle as part of a narcotics investigation when the man behind the wheel, later identified as Golatte, crashed into a police vehicle and tried to strike an officer with his SUV in the 300 block of West 115th Street about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, according to a Chicago Police statement.
Officers then shot the man in the shoulder and he was taken to a hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.
“At that point the vehicle is considered a weapon,” Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said.
Golatte, who lives in the 100 block of West 115th Street, was ordered held without bond Monday, according to police and the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
