Three people were hurt when the driver of a pickup truck accidentally plowed into a cafe Thursday afternoon in west suburban Big Rock.
The 71-year-old driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup pulled into the parking lot of the Big Rock Cafe at 103 W. Galena St. in Big Rock about 1 p.m. and hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.
The pickup crashed into the side of the building and partially entered the kitchen before coming to a stop, according to the statement.
Two employees who were in the kitchen and the driver of the pickup were hurt, according to the statement.
One of the employees, a 51-year-old man, and the driver were taken to an Aurora hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The other employee, a 39-year-old man, was treated and released at the scene.
Three customers in the cafe were not hurt.
The 71-year-old driver of the pickup was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to the statement. It does not appear drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The Big Rock Cafe will be closed until further notice.
