A man is in critical but stable condition after he was shot Wednesday evening at a gas station in Grundy County.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Shell station at 625 E. Division St. in Coal City at 8:10 p.m., according to a statement from Coal City police.

The victim, a male of unknown age, was found bleeding with multiple gunshot wounds in a silver Dodge Ram, police said. The pickup had also been shot up.

Investigators discovered the suspect left the gas station before officers arrived. The suspect had argued with the victim south of the gas station where several semis park, police said.

The victim was taken to Morris Hospital, but was later airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition. As of 1 p.m., his condition had stabilized, police said.

“We advise all citizens that this is an isolated incident and law enforcement is working diligently on apprehending the suspect,” police said in the statement.

Coal City police, Grundy County sheriff’s deputies and Braidwood police are investigating the case, and have searched several locations outside Grundy County, but as of 1 p.m., the suspect had not been found.

Police are also awaiting a search warrant for an”electronic device” found at the scene.
