Sam Janus is a self-aware player.

With the presence of Western Michigan recruit Jack Szott to lead the staff, Janus has become quite comfortable in his role as Metea Valley’s No. 2 starter.

Against Upstate Eight Valley-leading Waubonsie Valley, Janus showed why. The senior right-hander went six-plus innings Tuesday to help Metea grab the opener of its three-game series with Waubonsie 6-3.
