Man shot, killed in Gary

A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in northwest Indiana Friday night.

Deonte Ballard was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds about 11:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of Aetna Street in Gary, Ind., according to a statement from the Lake County coroner’s office.

Ballard, who lived on the same block he was shot, was pronounced dead on the scene and his death has been ruled a homicide, the coroner’s office said.

Further details were not available Saturday morning.
