A Grundy County crash involving five vehicles on I-80 left one person dead and three others injured Sunday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-80 at Route 47 at 1:22 p.m. in Morris, according to Illinois State Police.

A vehicle was entering the interstate from Route 47 and cut off a second vehicle that was heading east, police said. The second vehicle swerved to the left, drove through the center median ditch and went airborne into westbound lanes, police said.

It then struck three other vehicles in the westbound lanes. Three people were hospitalized and at least one person died, police said. Additional information was not being released early Sunday evening.

Lanes were reopened at 5:30 p.m., police said.

Morris, the largest town in Grundy County, is about 21 miles southwest of Joliet.
