Police: Man reported dead after McKinley Park shooting survived

A man who was reported to be dead after a shooting nearly three weeks ago in the South Side McKinley Park neighborhood survived, according to police.

The 26-year-old was shot about 3:50 p.m. on June 11 while he walking down the street in the 3500 block of South Western Avenue, police said.

A male suspect got out of a black car and fired shots, striking the man in the head and neck, police said.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. The car then drove off east on 35th Street.

Police initially said after the shooting that the man was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai, but early Tuesday said the man had survived the attack and was recovering.
