BOURBONNAIS — After spending all of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, quarterback Bears David Fales returned to practice Sunday.

He declined to give specifics about the illness that kept him out, saying it was “nothing too serious, but a little scare before camp.” He said the illness was a “really long story.”

Fales, who was cleared for practice Saturday night, said he’s learned the playbook. He said it was easier to learn this offense than Marc Trestman’s the year before, in part because he’s not a rookie anymore.

“I know it — I picked this up a lot easier than I did last year,” he said. “It’s just night and day, just how I see everything. But seeing and knowing is a lot different than going out there and getting behind center and doing it.”

The second-year player said he’d be ready to play Saturday against the Colts, but has been given no indication from coaches whether he will.
