A woman was critically injured in a shooting Tuesday night in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

The 48-year-old woman was outside taking out the trash at 10:55 p.m. in the 9300 block of South Chappel when she was shot multiple times, police said.

She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, according to police.

A police source said the woman’s son had been involved in an earlier altercation with unknown offenders.
