Bond was set at $500,000 for a man charged with pointing a gun at police officers Wednesday afternoon in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side.

Aaron McNeil, 27, faces two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon, and one count each of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, and unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies, according to Chicago Police.

At 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, two Cook County Civil Process Deputies, who serve court documents, were in the 800 block of East Drexel Square when they came upon a shooting in progress, police and Sophia Ansari, Cook County sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said at the time.

McNeil, who was involved in the shooting, then pointed a gun in the direction of the officers and one of the deputies fired shots, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

McNeil, of the 5500 block of South Loomis Boulevard, was subsequently taken into custody, police said.

He was ordered held on a $500,000 bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 23.
