A 20-year-old man who died three days after he was rescued from a garage fire Tuesday night in south suburban Country Club Hills committed suicide, an autopsy found.
Crews responded to the blaze at Mark Calcaterra’s home in the 18600 block of Baker Avenue at 8:48 p.m., according to Country Club Hills Fire Department and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Calcaterra was trapped in the garage and firefighters forced entry through the side door to pull him out, authorities said. No one else was found and the fire was quickly extinguished.
He was taken to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he died at 6:06 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
An autopsy Monday found he died of hanging and his death was ruled a suicide.
