Wanted to start things off tonight with a big thank you to Brother Rice, Marist, Simeon and Fenwick. These last two games I’ve covered have been spectacular. Great crowds, great basketball, special events.

Actually, it is exactly what the Morgan Park parents want for their kids. Don’t miss Joe Henricksen and I debating the Morgan Park issues on this week’s episode of No Shot Clock.

I needed the basketball pick me up after last week. Working on a big, messy, breaking news situation like the Morgan Park thing is pretty mentally exhausting. Don’t worry, I’m not looking for any pity. I know I have the best job in the world.

Marist played really well tonight. Keep an eye on sophomore point guard Maurice Commander. He was impressive. I’m surprised there isn’t more hype around him.

The future is very bright at Marist. Commander is one of three sophomores playing a big part on a good varsity team.

Tonight’s top games

Joliet Catholic 67, Lincoln-Way Central 55: Are the Hilltoppers headed for the Super 25? It seems possible. Jalen Jackson and Luke Mander each scored 23. How’s that for a wild turn of fortune if Joliet Catholic is ranked and the Tigers and Steelmen are on the outside looking in?

Hales 70, De La Salle 57: Signs of life from Hales. The Meteors are 12-5 this season. A nice win for the Spartans.

St. Laurence 55, Reavis 42: Another rivalry game, The Battle of Burbank. Christian Ferrer scored 13.

West Chicago 77, Montini 66: Monster night for Tai Bibbs with 31 points. I need to see him play, heard very good things.
