A Chicago Police officer fired at least one shot at a suspect who opened fire early Sunday in the North Side West Ridge neighborhood.

24th District officers were on patrol in the 6400 block of North Claremont about 4 a.m. when multiple shots were fired, according to a statement from police News Affairs.

An officer discharged his weapon, and at least one suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the statement. It’s not yet known if the suspect was shot.

No one is in custody as of Sunday morning. Police are searching for the suspect and the vehicle.

No officers were injured. The Independent Police Review Authority, which handles all police-involved shootings, is investigating.
