A 40-year-old man has been charged with burglarizing at least one vehicle in west suburban Riverside.

John D. Kimbrough faces one felony count of burglary, according to a statement from Riverside police.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, a woman called 911 to report that she saw someone breaking into a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Shenstone Road, police said.

She approached the man, but he got into a gold vehicle and drove away, police said. She also got into her vehicle and followed the vehicle through Riverside while on the phone with 911.

The vehicle was pulled over at Stanley and Clarence in Berwyn, police said. The driver tried to run away, but was arrested. The witness identified Kimbrough as the one who broke into the vehicle.

Police said he had been going street to street in Riverside attempting to burglarize vehicles.

Additional charges are expected to be filed against Kimbrough, of Brookfield, who was on electric monitoring at the time and has 18 prior arrests, police said.
