A 23-year-old Aurora gang member was sentenced to more than nine years in prison on Wednesday for shooting at someone he thought was in a rival gang in July.
About 8:30 p.m. July 18, Gabriel G. Martinez was a passenger in a car driving in the 200 block of Beach Street in Aurora, according to Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Salvatore LoPiccolo. Martinez saw someone he thought was a rival gang member standing in front of a home and fire multiple shots from a handgun in his direction. No one was injured.
Martinez, of the first block of South Lincoln Avenue, pleaded guilty to aggravated a felony aggravated discharge of a firearm, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison.
He was given credit for 486 days served in the Kane County Jail where was held since his arrest, prosecutors said.
