A man was fatally shot early Tuesday during an attempted armed robbery in west suburban Broadview, according to authorities.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 3:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of 25th Avenue and found 22-year-old Cory L. Foster with gunshot wounds, according to Broadview police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The victim was identified as Cory Foster Jr., according to Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin, who said Foster was shot during an attempted armed robbery at a gas station. Cory Foster Sr. was Boykin’s first chief of staff, he said.
Foster, who lived in the 3100 block of West Madison Street in Bellwood, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 3:54 a.m., authorities said.
“I spoke to Cory [Foster Sr.] and expressed my condolences to him and his family,” Boykin said in a statement. “The pain in his voice was palpable.”
Boykin called on Gov. Bruce Rauner to convene a meeting of community leaders, members of law enforcement and elected officials to discuss what canbe done to curb gun violence.
