Man fatally shot in Chatham

A man was shot to death Sunday night in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

About 11:45 p.m., officers arrived in the 8100 block of South Ellis and found 45-year-old Darren Smith unresponsive inside a home, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Smith lived on the same block as the shooting.

Additional information was not available from police early Monday. Area South detective are conducting a homicide investigation.
