Allstate Corp. is setting up an office for about 400 people in the Merchandise Mart.

The Northbrook-based insurance company said the innovation hub will chiefly be involved in data analysis and safer-driving technologies.

“We’re expanding our world-class technology and data capabilities to help us better serve our customers, advance public safety and improve the quality of life on our roadways, in our homes and in our workplaces,” Allstate Chairman and CEO Thomas J. Wilson said in a news release.

Allstate has leased 45,000 square fee of office space on the 8th floor of the Merchandise Mart, home to many tech companies.

The company’s data analysis team — formally known as Quantitative Research & Analytics — leads research, compiles data and builds predictive models. Allstate’s Connected Car Division focuses on telematics, such as Drivewise, and ways to make driver safer through vehicle diagnostics, crash detection and mapping.
