A northwest suburban man has been charged with burglary after police say they found him hiding in the basement of an Elgin home with several of the homeowner’s possessions.

A man ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911 just before 8 a.m. Friday after hearing footsteps coming from the second floor of his house, according to the Elgin police, who said officers found 22-year-old Jahashi Hutton of Streamwood in the basement.

Hutton was charged with residential burglary and resisting arrest.
