A man took himself to a hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the knee in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the North Side early Friday.

The 65-year-old tripped while he was in the 4500 block of North Winchester about 4:40 a.m. when he tripped and a gun he was carrying “accidentally discharged,” police said.

He took himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left knee, police said. His condition was not immediately known.
