MESA, Ariz. – Albert Almora, the top outfield prospect in Cubs camp, said he felt fine after an injury scare during morning practice Wednesday, when his back “knotted up.”

“Just a little minor back spasm,” said Almora, the 2012 No. 6 overall draft pick who has looked good in early exhibition games. “I feel 100 percent better now.”

Almora felt the back tighten as he started after a ball during popup drills, then left the field with the trainer for treatment. He’ll be evaluated again Thursday before a decision is made on his playing status.

“I could go right now. I could play 100 percent right now,” said Almora just more than hour after leaving the field. “They decided, `Why do it? It’s spring and these games don’t count.’ But I said, `Any day in the season [if it happens], I’m playing.’ ”
