The Rams, notorious for collecting a treasure trove for a 2012 draft pick that became the Redskins’ Robert Griffin III, just did the opposite.
They acquired the No. 1 overall pick from the Titans on Thursday morning — but had to give up a lot to move up from the No. 15 spot.
The Rams traded the No. 15 pick this year, plus two second-rounders (No. 43 and No. 45), a third-rounder (No. 76) and their first- and third-round picks next year to the Titans. Tennessee dealt the No. 1, No. 113 and No. 177 to the Rams.
In their first year in Los Angeles, the Rams have seemingly targeted a quarterback — perhaps Carson Wentz? — with the top overall pick.
The move gives the Bears one fewer quarterback-hungry team that might have been interested in No. 11, were one of the three top signal-callers still available two weeks from now.
Both Wentz and Cal quarterback Jared Goff figure to be gone long before No. 11, leaving Memphis’ Paxton Lynch as the lone possibility.
The Bears don’t seem likely to draft a quarterback in the first round, but could entertain trades with those who are. That’s if — and only if — Lynch hasn’t been taken in the top 10.
