ATLANTA — Anthony Rizzo’s back scare lasted just one day as the two-time All-Star returned to the lineup Saturday and hit his 14th home run of the season in an 8-2 win over the Braves
Rizzo, who woke up with tightness in his back Friday and sat out the series opener against the Braves, said he wasn’t sure what caused it.
“Maybe the bed got me,” said Rizzo, who has dealt with similar issues in the past. “But I feel good [Saturday].
“It was just more about being smart about it now instead of trying to be a hero in June,” he added. “It’s a long season, so instead of going out there and pushing it and maybe setting myself back longer, take a day.”
Call to arms
On the third and final day of the amateur draft, the Cubs continued their obsession with pitching, taking 20 more arms among their 30 picks on Saturday.
After waiting out the first two rounds without a pick (as compensation for signing free agents John Lackey and Jason Heyward), the Cubs wound up drafting 27 pitchers with their picks, including 20 college arms (of those, 17 right-handers).
Nine of the 11 hitters they took also were college players, including three outfielders and two catchers.
The Cubs didn’t take a high school player until the 22nd round, when they drafted left-hander Dante Biasi from Maddon’s hometown of Hazelton, Pa.
