Recovering from arthroscopic left knee surgery, Bears outside linebacker Pernell McPhee did not practice Tuesday and won’t the rest of the week.
Even once training camp starts in July, the Bears figure to be careful with their big-money acquisition of 2015.
“I can’t predict five weeks day-to-day,” Bears coach John Fox said after the Bears’ first of three mandatory minicamp practices. “Pernell’s doing what we think is best for him and for us, and I’ll say the same until we get to training camp, and even then.”
Guard Ted Larsen wasn’t spotted at practice — Fox said, simply, he was “doing what we feel is best for him right now” — and neither was receiver Deonte Thompson or defensive back Omar Bolden. Tight end Rob Housler was in street clothes.
Four players participated on a tryout basis: tight ends Tony Moeaki and Ryan Taylor, defensive lineman Marquis Jackson and fullback Darrel Young.
Moeaki, a Wheaton-Warrenville South and Iowa alum, had 556 receiving yards in 2010 and 453 in 2012, but caught only three passes in 10 games for the Falcons last year.
