It will take months, not days, to find out what killed Bryan Robinson.

The toxicology report administered to the former Bears defensive lineman — who was found dead Saturday night at a Milwaukee motel — won’t be completed for eight to 10 weeks, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday. His cause of death is pending the toxicology report.

The Milwaukee Police Department investigation into Robinson’s death is ongoing, a spokesman said Tuesday, but the case is not being looked at as a homicide. Rather, it is being investigated as a sudden death; an autopsy performed Monday did not produce any signs of trauma.

Robinson, a Gurnee resident who was married, checked into the Midpoint Motel in Milwaukee with another male at 9 a.m. Saturday and rented a room for six hours. Employees entered the room that night when Robinson, 41, had not checked out.

The man who checked into the motel with Robinson — described as African-American, thin and with dreadlocks — left between 4 and 5 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s investigation report. Asked whether officers had spoken with the man, police spokesman Sgt. Timothy Gauerke said Tuesday he was unaware what witnesses had been interviewed.

Robinson was considered a “regular” at the hotel, according to the investigation report, and was found dead in a room with whisky, marijuana, lubricant and “poppers,” an inhalant often used as a drug.

He played for the Bears from 1998-2003 and is best known for blocking a field goal to beat the Packers six days after Walter Payton’s death in 1999.
