A man accused of fatally stabbing his neighbor in 2010, then returning several times to steal from her Far South Side home was sentenced to 32 years in prison this month after pleading guilty to murder.

Vincent S. Williams, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of murder Dec. 8 before Judge Carol Howard, who sentenced him to 32 years in prison during a Dec. 12 hearing, court records show.

Williams was a neighbor to 61-year-old Joyce Fulgium, and frequently did work in her home, prosecutors said at a bond hearing following his arrest.

At some point between Dec. 28, 2009, and Jan. 2, 2010, he gained entry to the home and fatally stabbed Fulgium in the face, prosecutors claimed.

He stole her Jeep Wrangler, then returned to the home to steal more items over several days, the Sun-Times reported previously. Prosecutors also claim he stole a computer, jewelry and multiple televisions, and sold them for drugs.

Williams was arrested on Jan. 3. 2010 while driving the stolen Jeep, and the arresting officers saw blood on his pants, authorities said at the time.

He has a history of multiple convictions for burglary and possessing stolen vehicles dating back to 1987, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

Williams, of the 11000 block of South Lowe, will receive credit for nearly five years spent behind bars since his arrest, records show.
