Jon Lester is getting in some extra work for his pickoff move

After a slow start, Jon Lester’s season has come together nicely. He’s undefeated over the last month, with a 2.57 ERA and 1.071 WHIP. However, he’s still had one nagging problem.

Lester still can’t throw to first base.

The pitcher’s inability to throw to first base has been well documented. With so many believing it’s mental, Lester and the Cubs coaching staff took a new approach.

It makes sense, at least for the time being. Having Lester throw to a more familiar sight when throwing in that direction could help to make him more comfortable.

Of course, Anthony Rizzo won’t be squatting down while holding on the runner. If Lester’s pickoff attempts don’t improve, Jorge Soler better stay ready.
