White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham makes impressive barehanded grab

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham made the play of the game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Angeles third baseman Ryan Jackson laid down a sacrifice bunt to White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon. The White Sox pitcher made a wild throw to first base, and Beckham reached out and caught the ball barehanded for the force out.

Jackson still advanced catcher Carlos Perez to second base, but Beckham’s play saved Perez from advancing more than one base.

This play reminded some of San Francisco Giants outfielder Kevin Mitchell’s barehanded grab against the St. Louis Cardinals in 1989.

Beckham’s catch at first base wasn’t as difficult as Mitchell’s, but the White Sox second baseman still made an impressive play.
