Comcast expects service to be restored Thursday night for 4,000 customers who lost cable and internet after an earlier fire in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood.

Firefighters responded about 7 p.m. to the 3600 block of West Diversey Avenue and found a fire in a garage, Fire Media Affairs Chief Larry Langford said.

Crews stopped the fire from spreading to a vacant coach house nearby, and no one was hurt, Langford said. The fire has since been extinguished.

Comcast internet and cable services were out for about 4,000 customers after the fire damaged a node on their network, a company spokesman said.

Service for the customers was expected to be restored by 10:30 p.m., the spokesman said.
