With Friday night’s double-overtime win over Orlando, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant became the first pair of teammates to each score at least 40 points in a single game since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen accomplished the feat in 1996, according to ESPN.
Westbrook had 48 and Durant had 43 as the Thunder beat the Magic 136-139.
Jordan and Pippen combined for 84 in a 110-102 win over the Pacers on Feb. 18, 1996. The Bulls pair became the ninth duo to accomplished the feat, and did it without overtime, according to the New York Times.
Dennis Rodman had 23 rebounds to the victory.

We had to send a message, and come in here ready to play, because they’re trying to send a message, Jordan said of the possibility the two teams might meet in the playoffs. The last time teammates scored 40 or more in the same game was March 19, 1984, when Adrian Dantley had 43 and John Drew 42 for Utah against Detroit.
