Don’t worry Chicagoans. Girl Scout cookie prices aren’t going up here.

Your favorite Thin Mints and Samoas are staying put at $4 a box when sales get underway in January.

Girl Scouts in Chicago and northwest Indiana won’t be raising their prices even though some councils in Massachusetts and California have opted to raise the price to $5 a box.

“Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana cookie pricing will remain exactly the same as last year. All varieties are $4, with the exception of gluten-free Toffee-tastics, which will remain $5,” L’Oreal Payton, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, said Thursday.

The council includes six Illinois counties — Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee, Lake and Will — and four Indiana counties — Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter.

Illinois has five Girl Scout councils. Nationwide, there are 112 councils. It’s up to the individual councils to set their cookie prices.

CNBC reported on Thursday that a council in eastern Massachusetts is joining at least two others in California in raising cookie prices so that the council’s troops will get an average of 90 cents per box, up from an average of 62 cents per box. Some groups in both Hawaii and California have already raised prices in high cost-of-living areas.
