All lanes of the outbound Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) were reopened five hours after a West Side rollover crash that killed a woman and left five other people injured, officials said.
A Chevrolet Venture van was traveling at a high speed in the far left lane of westbound I-290 at Kostner when it lost control about 4:30 a.m., according to Illinois State Police. The van swerved to the right and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest on its roof. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The woman, thought to be in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. She was not the driver of the van.
Two men who were in the car were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, while three other women were taken to Stroger Hospital, Langford said. They were all listed in serious-to-critical condition.
One of the men was the driver, according to state police.
All outbound lanes were closed after the crash, with traffic only getting by along the left shoulder for several hours, according to state police. All lanes had been reopened by 9:30 a.m.
