A 25-year-old man was shot during a home invasion early Saturday in west suburban Oak Park.

About 2 a.m., several friends and acquaintances were gathered in the basement of a home in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue, according to a statement from the village of Oak Park.

Someone responded to a knock at the door and three armed males pointed guns at him and forced their way inside, according to authorities. They announced a robbery and began taking personal possessions from the group.

People who had been in the basement told police they heard gunshots from the yard and the armed men ran out.

After hearing cries for help, they found the 25-year-old victim lying on the ground outside, according to authorities. He had apparently crawled through a window, but was shot as he attempted to run away by a fourth suspect who had stayed outside while the other three entered the home.

The 25-year-old Forest Park resident was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in unknown condition.
