Teen charged in slaying of aspiring rapper

A Cicero teenager was ordered held on $800,000 bail Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at a Northwest Side gas station.

William Hill, 17, didn’t pull the trigger but he pointed out 27-year-old Jeremy Rogers to the gunman before Rogers was shot in the head on June 5, Cook County prosecutors said.

Rogers, an aspiring rapper who performed as Jay Roc, died more than 10 days later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Rogers was a single father of two.

Rogers and others were at a BP gas station in the 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue when he, Hill and another teen started arguing, Assistant State’s Attorney Holly Grosshans said.

During the fight, Hill identified himself as a “Spanish 4” gang member, Grosshans said. He also said he went by the street name of “Montana.”

At one point, Hill was seen making a call on his cellphone, Grosshans said.

A few minutes later, a male came from across the street and had “momentary contact” with Hill, Grosshans said.

After that, another male came from the direction of a nearby laundromat armed with a gun, Grosshans said.

Witnesses said they saw Hill point out Rogers to the partially masked gunman before shots were fired.

Hill and the gunman immediately fled after the shooting, Grosshans said.

Hill was arrested Monday.

Hill graduated from a military school in Rantoul, Illinois, and has taken some courses at Harper College, an assistant public defender said.

He holds two jobs at a local Popeye’s and Sbarro, the assistant public defender said.
