An elderly man was found dead in a retention pond in west suburban Downers Grove Monday morning.

Officers were called about 9:30 a.m. to the pond in the 200 block of Village Drive, where they found the man dead in the water, Downers Grove police said.

He was identified as 74-year-old Richard Warren of Downers Grove, according to the DuPage County coroner’s office.

His cause of death is presumed to be drowning, pending toxicology tests, according to the coroner’s office.
