A man has been charged with fatally stabbing a 51-year-old man to death in the Ashburn neighborhood last week on the Southwest Side.

Chadwick Perkins, 26, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the Wednesday attack at the home he shared with Michael Montgomery in the 3900 block of West 85th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

When they got into a fight just after 5 a.m., Perkins stabbed Montgomery repeatedly across the upper body, and the older man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities allege. He died there at 7:34 a.m.

Perkins was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation and later charged with the attack, police said.

He was held without bond at a Sunday hearing, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is Aug. 24.
