Lamar Chambers | Cook County sheriff’s office

A Far South Side man was charged with shooting another man to death earlier this week in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Lamar Chambers, 25, faces first-degree murder charges in the Wednesday killing of 51-year-old Bruce E. Smith, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

About 12:35 a.m., the pair got into an argument in the street outside Smith’s home in the 5100 block of South Honore and Chambers shot the older man in the chest, authorities allege.

Smith was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m.

Chambers, of the 11000 block of South Green, was ordered held on a $1 million bond at a Friday hearing, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is due in court again Oct. 12.
