A 27-year-old man was shot to death during an attempted robbery early Friday in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

Daimmyon Hackman, of downstate Bloomington, was sitting in a vehicle at 1:26 a.m. in the 7500 block of South St. Lawrence when someone walked up, pulled out a handgun and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police. He refused to comply with the robber, who then shot him in his left armpit.

Hackman was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 2:28 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police initially said Hackman was 18 years old.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
