Mike Nelson finally got the big buck with a near-white rack during Illinois’s first firearm season.

“We had all seen this 280-pound buck a few times, but never close enough to arrow,’’ Mike Carlson emailed.

They were hunting in a favorite area in Jo Daviess County.
