A man was shot while driving on the Eisenhower Expressway Sunday night in the west suburbs.

The 32-year-old man showed up at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora with a gunshot wound to the left hip and told investigators that he was struck while driving on Interstate 290 near Mannheim Road, according to Illinois State Police.

He told investigators a red vehicle pulled up to his driver’s side and someone fired several shots at his vehicle, police said.

Gunshots were reported in the area about 5:20 p.m., but an initial investigation did not find a person shot.

Lanes were closed until 9:45 p.m. while state investigators walked the scene looking for evidence, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has any information is asked to call ISP at (847) 294-4400. Callers can remain anonymous.
