Two people who were found dead in a van Wednesday afternoon in northwest Indiana likely overdosed, authorities said.
Officers responded about noon to a report of two unconscious people in a parked van at the BP gas station at 525 Indian Boundary Road in Chesterton, Indiana, according to the Chesterton Police Department.
The driver of the van, 49-year-old Andrew Dicharia, and the passenger, 29-year-old Kim Raines of Bolingbrook, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.
Their causes of death were “probable and suspected drug toxicity,” Harris said.
“We want to stress that there is no evidence that any violent crime occurred,” police said in a statement posted to the department’s Facebook page. “The incident is believed to be drug-related.”
