A man was fatally shot Thursday evening in northwest Indiana.

Officers were called about 5:45 p.m. for reports of shots fired and a man down in the 800 block of South Lake Street in Gary, according to a statement from Gary police.

They arrived to find 55-year-old Terrence Conley in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face, according to police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Conley, who lived in Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death was ruled a homicide, authorities said.
