A man was fatally shot and two others were wounded Sunday afternoon in East Garfield Park on the West Side, according to police.

Shots rang out about 3:40 p.m. in the 400 block of North Springfield Avenue as one man sat in a parked vehicle and two others stood nearby, Chicago police said.

Charles Jackson, 37, was in the vehicle when he was shot in the head, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He was pronounced dead shortly after at Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said.

A 34-year-old man standing nearby was struck in the buttocks and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. The third man, 32, was shot in his right leg and was taken to the same hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

Area North detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
