A gunman fatally shot a woman before turning the gun on himself Friday afternoon in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Khalid Al-Jaber, 42, shot 30-year-old Huda Al-Jaburi in the head before shooting himself about 1:10 p.m. during a “domestic incident” in the 4700 block of North Linder, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Al-Jaburi, who lived in the same block, was dead at the scene, authorities said. Al-Jaber, who lived in West Rogers Park, was taken to a hospital in critical condition before dying.

Autopsies found that Al-Jaburi died from multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, while Al-Jaber died of a gunshot wound to the chest and his death was ruled a suicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area North detectives were investigating the case as a murder-suicide.
