With the push of a button WLIT 93.9-FM began its annual ’round-the-clock holiday music format at 4:09 p.m. Thursday. The first song? “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams.

Now through the end of the year, listeners can tune in 24 hours a day for a time-tested Christmas/holiday music playlist. That means plenty of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and too many more to list here.

For diehards, there will be all the familiar tunes, vocalists, instrumentalists. For newbies, there’s nothing quite like it to get you into the holiday spirit during those long commutes to and from work, school, shopping, at work — you get the picture. The tradition at “Chicago’s Christmas music station” began in 2001.

So what’s the song you absolutely must hear each year as part of the lineup?

Happy holiday listening.
